Anchorage - Day 1

My son-in-law took us to the airport at the crack of dawn on May 12. Thanks, Joe!! We flew from Milwaukee, through Minneapolis and arrived in Anchorage about 2:30 pm, checked into the hotel, and caught the city bus (or People Mover as they refer to it) to downtown. The bus driver, Conrad, stopped us as we were getting off the bus, and told us how to get the best return route to our hotel when we were done downtown. We walked to the Snow Goose restaurant because we saw an ad that said they served caribou burgers. Don ordered the caribou burger with fries and I ordered a salmon burger with chips and a red pepper aioli on the side.

My dinner was delicious; the caribou burger was a little bland, but Don jazzed it up with the aioli from my meal and that improved the flavor. After dinner we wondered around a while and stopped at the tourist center to see what they would suggest for activities tomorrow. Kathryn, the volunteer we spoke to at the center, was originally from Green Bay, although she and her family have lived in Anchorage about 50 years. We gathered some information, then caught the people mover back to our hotel (without a hitch thanks to Conrad). Enjoyed warm cookies and cold milk at the hotel before heading to bed. It's 9:00 and still light!
